Data Recovery Information
Hard Drive Crash?
Never try to power on a drive that has been clicking or knocking. In most cases this indicates a physical problem with the drive, and can actually result in severe damage and permanent data loss. If your hard drive is making any unusual noises, only a data recovery professional can safely get your data back.

RAID Down?
A RAID failure of any kind is a serious situation. It's very easy to make your data unrecoverable by running utilities such as chkdsk, or attempting to rebuild a degraded array. If your RAID has failed, you need an expert in RAID data recovery.

Seagate Data Recovery

Seagate hard drives present unique challenges within the data recovery industry. There are two common problems with newer (2006-2009) hard drives produced by Seagate:

1) Seized Platters
2) Firmware Corruption

Seized Platters In Seagate Hard Drives

The spindle shaft on Seagate drives as well as the motor bearing are extremely fragile. We often see drives come in, especially external hard drives, that have either been dropped or knocked over. Once this occurs it often times will lock up the motor. You may only hear a slight whine or steady buzzing coming from the drive as it tries to spin. We have seen cases where it literally takes only the slightest bump to cause this problem.

When this failure occurs there is really only one option and that is to swap the platters on the drive. We need to move the platters from the damaged drive motor to a new case with a good drive motor. Easier said than done. This process is complicated enough on any drive, and complicating the process even further is the fact that Seagate uses heat spacers between each platter.

When swapping multi-platter drives, it is VITALLY important to maintain both the horizontal and vertical axis alignments. Any deviation of these alignments, even by a few microns, will result in the data most likely being unrecoverable. With the heat spacers in place in these Seagate drives, it is extremely complicated to grab the "pack" of platters together as one unit. It can be done, but it is much more difficult in these drives.

Firmware problems

In late 2008 and into 2009 many Seagate drives have suffered firmware failures, which result in the drive being completely inaccessible. These are known issues with some of the 7200.11 drives and can only be recovered by a professional data recovery firm.

We can recover data on any type of Seagate hard drive including those listed below:
